Our Story
“My first experience meeting a woman who was being sexually exploited and trafficked was in the city of Chicago. I really had no concept that women were being forced to sell their bodies on the same streets and in the same neighborhoods where I was raising my family and driving my kids to school. I remember being pregnant, waddling around the streets, having conversations with women and connecting with them because they too had had children. I saw buyers pull up their car and have a conversation with a woman. And I would watch her get into the car and think to myself, what kind of experience is she gonna have that is violent and traumatic and dangerous to her? And when we would speak, that would be the most dignified conversation she would have for the day. Because soon after, and soon before, she was treated as if she was a piece of property. These experiences led to feeling that God was saying, ‘I can use you. I can use the Church to give women a place to heal from their trauma and start a new life.’ From there, Naomi’s House began.”
